At the centre sits Mary Gillick's elegant first coinage portrait of the young Queen Elizabeth II, showing the monarch in profile wearing a traditional laurel wreath.

Surrounding the central portrait are all ten Queen's Beasts, carefully arranged in a protective circle. The creatures include lions, a dragon, unicorn, griffin, falcon, bull, greyhound, yale and horse.
