Created by Perth Mint artist Ing Ing Jong, the composition captures the close relationship between the two animals and their natural Australian habitat.

The mother koala is depicted facing forward along the tree, with its large rounded ears, broad nose and expressive face beautifully reproduced in fine silver.

The smaller joey peers towards the viewer while remaining safely positioned on its mother's back.

Individual strands of fur, detailed paws, textured tree bark and eucalyptus leaves create an exceptionally intricate naturalistic composition.

The reverse carries the inscription “KOALA”, the 2023 year-date, one-troy-ounce silver specifications and The Perth Mint's traditional P mintmark.

A micro-laser engraved letter provides an additional security feature, intended to be identified under magnification.

The obverse displays Jody Clark's official Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Portrait.

The Queen is shown wearing the George IV State Diadem and pearl necklace, accompanied by the memorial dates “1952–2022”.

The surrounding inscriptions identify Queen Elizabeth II, Australia and the coin's official one-dollar denomination.
