The 2024 Australian Chinese Myths and Legends Four Guardians Lán coin is struck by The Perth Mint from one troy ounce of .9999 fine silver. Its blue colour treatment distinguishes the Lán release from the red Hóng and standard uncoloured editions, with specialist retailers reporting a limited edition of 5,000 coins.
Designed by Wade Robinson, the reverse unites the four celestial guardians of Chinese mythology: the Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Black Tortoise entwined with a snake and the phoenix-like Vermilion Bird. These legendary creatures represent the four cardinal directions and are traditionally connected with the seasons and protection of the celestial realm. The design also carries The Perth Mint’s “P” mintmark, while the obverse features Dan Thorne’s portrait of King Charles III.
Issued as Australian legal tender with a face value of one dollar, the coin measures 40.9mm in diameter and is presented in Brilliant Uncirculated condition inside a protective capsule. Minor bullion marks, toning or milk spotting can sometimes occur, and the capsule may display light storage marks. This is the capsule edition and does not include a coincard, presentation box or certificate unless otherwise shown.
