Celebrate the auspicious Year of the Dragon with this 2024 Australian Lunar Series III Purple Dragon Coin. Struck by The Perth Mint from one-half troy ounce of .9999 fine silver, this coloured Brilliant Uncirculated release is Australian legal tender with a face value of 50 cents and has a maximum mintage of 200,000 coins.
Designed by Perth Mint artist Ing Ing Jong, the reverse features a vivid purple Chinese dragon gazing towards a flaming pearl, a traditional symbol of wisdom and enlightenment. The artwork also incorporates the Chinese character for dragon, the inscription “DRAGON 2024” and a special P125 mintmark commemorating The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary.
The obverse carries Jody Clark’s Memorial Obverse of Queen Elizabeth II together with the dates of her reign, 1952–2022, and the coin’s weight, purity and monetary denomination. Measuring 32.60mm in diameter, this distinctive Purple Dragon variant is supplied inside a protective acrylic capsule.
