Design & Collection

The principal side features a stylised rooster facing left, formed from fragmented, mosaic-like sections that give the artwork its distinctive cracked-ice appearance. The Chinese character for the Rooster appears above the animal, while surrounding inscriptions identify the Lunar Ounce series, 2017 date, weight and .999 silver purity. The opposite side displays Rwanda’s national coat of arms, issuing inscriptions and denomination of 50 francs.

Introduced in 2017, the Rwanda Lunar Ounce collection celebrates the twelve animals of the traditional Chinese zodiac. The Rooster was the first design in the series, establishing the characteristic angular artwork subsequently used throughout the collection. The coins are issued for Rwanda and manufactured in Germany by B. H. Mayer Kunstprägeanstalt.

Packaging

This coin has additional collector significance as the inaugural issue in the Rwanda Lunar Ounce series. A final mintage for the bullion version has not been officially published. It should not be confused with the separately issued proof edition, which has different presentation characteristics and a separately recorded issue limit.
