Britannia 2027 £2 1 oz .999 Silver Bullion Coin - UK - The Royal Mint
Coming Soon
Register your interest in the Britannia 2027 £2 1 oz Silver Bullion Coin, the forthcoming annual edition of The Royal Mint’s internationally recognised British silver bullion coin.
Expected to be struck from one troy ounce of .999 fine silver, the 2027 release will mark 30 years since the first Silver Britannia was introduced in 1997.
Combining an internationally recognised design with trusted Royal Mint craftsmanship, the Silver Britannia remains an enduring choice for bullion buyers and collectors of annually dated British coinage.
Current industry information indicates that the coin is expected to become available during early October 2026. The exact release date, final specification and launch price remain subject to confirmation.
Thirty Years of the Silver Britannia
The first Silver Britannia was released by The Royal Mint in 1997, following the success of the original Gold Britannia introduced ten years earlier.
Initially produced from Britannia silver with a purity of .958, the series changed to .999 fine silver in 2013. The 2027 edition therefore represents an important anniversary year for one of Britain’s most established modern bullion coins.
Britannia has represented strength, integrity and Britain’s maritime heritage for centuries. Her image first appeared on Roman coins and continues to serve as one of the country’s most recognisable national symbols.
Philip Nathan’s Britannia
The reverse is expected to retain Philip Nathan’s internationally recognised portrayal of Britannia standing resolutely against the wind.
Britannia holds a trident in her right hand, representing Britain’s historic connection with the sea, while carrying a shield decorated with the Union Flag and holding an olive branch in her left hand.
The design presents Britannia as a powerful guardian, combining symbols of strength, protection and peace.
Advanced Britannia Security Features
The 2027 coin is expected to retain the advanced security features incorporated into Silver Britannias since 2021.
These established features include:
A latent security image that changes between a padlock and Britannia’s trident
Surface animation that creates the appearance of moving waves
Micro-text around the design reading “DECUS ET TUTAMEN”
Tincture lines carefully incorporated into Britannia’s Union Flag shield
Together, these intricate elements make the modern Silver Britannia significantly more difficult to reproduce while adding movement and additional detail to the design.
Final confirmation of the security features appearing on the 2027 edition is awaited from The Royal Mint.
King Charles III Obverse
The obverse is expected to feature Martin Jennings’ official uncrowned coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III.
The surrounding inscription is expected to include the King’s name and the coin’s monetary denomination of £2, confirming its status as official United Kingdom legal tender.
One Troy Ounce of .999 Fine Silver
The coin is expected to contain one full troy ounce of .999 fine silver, weighing approximately 31.10 grams.
Its combination of trusted weight, high silver purity and internationally recognisable imagery makes the Britannia suitable for both individual purchases and larger bullion holdings.
Individual coins will be supplied in protective plastic coin flips. Multiples of 25 are expected to be available in original Royal Mint tubes, subject to final stock configuration.
Mintage Information
No maximum mintage has currently been announced for the 2027 1oz Silver Britannia.
Standard bullion Britannias are ordinarily produced according to market demand rather than released with a small fixed collector mintage. The 2027 coin’s appeal comes from its silver content, annual date and expected significance as the 30th-anniversary year of the Silver Britannia.
