Struck from one troy ounce of 999.9 pure silver, the coin depicts Apollo playing his lyre while walking through a peaceful pastoral setting. The artwork also references the famous Greek myth of Apollo and Daphne.

Issued as the ninth release in The Perth Mint’s revived Gods of Olympus bullion series, the coin has a maximum worldwide mintage of only 13,500 pieces and is supplied in a protective capsule.

The Gods of Olympus Series

The Perth Mint originally introduced its Gods of Olympus collection in 2014 as a series of antiqued high-relief coins. The releases attracted considerable attention and quickly sold out.

The theme returned as a bullion series in 2020, introducing new interpretations of the most important gods and goddesses from ancient Greek mythology.

Apollo is the ninth release in this bullion collection, following Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hera, Athena, Aphrodite, Ares and Artemis.

Apollo was one of the most important and complex deities in ancient Greek mythology.

The lyre became one of Apollo’s most recognisable attributes, symbolising music, harmony and artistic inspiration.

Designed by Perth Mint artist Jennifer McKenna, the reverse portrays Apollo playing his lyre while walking through a tranquil woodland or pastoral setting.

Apollo appears youthful and athletic, reflecting the classical representations of the Olympian god found throughout ancient Greek art.

The inscription APOLLO appears prominently within the design alongside The Perth Mint’s traditional P mintmark.

The Myth of Apollo and Daphne

The design also incorporates Daphne, a nymph from one of the best-known stories involving Apollo.

According to Greek mythology, Daphne attempted to escape Apollo’s pursuit and called upon her father for protection. She was transformed into a laurel tree immediately before Apollo could reach her.

Apollo subsequently adopted the laurel as one of his sacred symbols, and laurel wreaths became associated with honour, victory, poetry and artistic achievement.

The inclusion of Daphne and the laurel tree adds another layer of storytelling to the coin’s detailed mythological artwork.

Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Obverse

The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.

The portrait is accompanied by the years of Her Late Majesty’s reign, 1952–2022, together with the coin’s issuing country, monetary denomination, weight, purity and 2023 year-date.

The inclusion of the memorial dates distinguishes this release from earlier coins carrying the standard Queen Elizabeth II obverse.

One Troy Ounce of 999.9 Silver

Each coin contains one full troy ounce of 999.9 pure silver, equivalent to .9999 fineness.

The coin carries a monetary denomination of one Tuvalu dollar and is issued as official legal tender of Tuvalu.
