The Lion and the Eagle 2026 £2 1oz .999 Silver Bullion Coin – UK – The Royal Mint
Celebrating the enduring relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States, The Lion and the Eagle 2026 £2 Silver Bullion Coin brings together two internationally recognised national symbols.
Struck by The Royal Mint from one Troy ounce of .999 fine silver, the coin features a new reverse design by acclaimed artist and engraver Jonathan Olliffe. The authoritative British lion and soaring American eagle form a powerful composition representing courage, strength, freedom and unity.
This Everyday Bullion listing is supplied in a protective plastic coin flip. A capsule, presentation box and certificate are not included.
Two Nations United
The British lion and American eagle have represented their respective nations for centuries.
The lion has a long association with British royalty, courage and authority. It has appeared throughout British heraldry, royal arms and coinage as a symbol of national strength.
The bald eagle was adopted as an emblem of the United States in 1782. It represents freedom, independence and determination and has remained an important feature of American seals and coinage.
By uniting these two national icons, the coin celebrates the shared history, values and long-standing partnership between the United Kingdom and the United States.
Jonathan Olliffe’s 2026 Reverse Design
The reverse was created by British artist and engraver Jonathan Olliffe and presents the two animals in a bold, harmonious composition.
The British lion stands confidently upon a rocky outcrop, representing courage, authority and steadfast strength. Above the surrounding seascape, the American eagle appears in flight with its wings extended, symbolising freedom and independence.
The composition creates a sense of movement while balancing the strength of the lion against the freedom of the soaring eagle.
Surrounding inscriptions identify the coin as THE LION AND THE EAGLE and confirm the 2026 year-date, one-ounce silver content and .999 fineness. Jonathan Olliffe’s initials also appear within the design.
King Charles III Obverse
The obverse features Martin Jennings’ official coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III.
The uncrowned, left-facing effigy is accompanied by the monarch’s name and the coin’s denomination of two pounds. Its status as United Kingdom legal tender is supported by The Royal Mint.
One Troy Ounce of .999 Fine Silver
Each coin contains one Troy ounce of .999 fine silver and has an approximate gross weight of 31.21 grams.
The internationally recognised one-ounce format makes the coin straightforward to store and add to an existing silver collection. Its combination of intrinsic silver content, Royal Mint production and dual-national symbolism gives it appeal to bullion buyers and collectors in both the United Kingdom and United States.
A Modern Royal Mint Bullion Series
The Lion and the Eagle theme first appeared on Royal Mint coins in 2024.
For the 2026 edition, Jonathan Olliffe created an entirely new reverse interpretation, giving the returning series a refreshed visual identity while retaining its focus on British-American friendship.
No maximum mintage has been published for the standard 2026 one-ounce bullion edition.
Protective Plastic Coin Flip
This coin is supplied in a protective plastic coin flip.
The flip provides practical protection during storage and delivery while allowing both sides of the coin to be viewed. The coin is not supplied with a Royal Mint capsule, presentation box or certificate of authenticity.
